In 1896, when the company was merely a small-scaled sesame oil mill, the founder, fueled by a passion for craftsmanship and unwavering dedication, embarked on a long entrepreneurial journey. Evolving from a street vendor, to a cooperative production team and finally an independent company, we have been strongly supported by the relentless efforts of several generations and the centurial craftsmanship spirit.

In 1996, Ren Changbo, the fifth-generation heir, returned from military service and launched a new start for the sesame oil mill leveraging the family’s traditional techniques. He deeply realized that to keep the business thriving in the fierce market competition, it was essential to uphold the centurial craftsmanship spirit and prioritize product quality. Bearing these in mind, he continuously introduced modern production techniques and management practices while emphasizing the preservation of traditional craftsmanship, propelling the company’s innovative development.

Ren’s decisions proved to be right. The small oil mill has gradually grown into the renowned Shandong Shilixiang Sesame Products Co., Ltd., earning accolades such as a demonstration enterprise of the “China Quality Grain and Oil” and a “Key Leading Enterprise in Agricultural Industrialization in Shandong Province”. What is behind this transformation is Ren’s steadfast commitment to the centurial craftsmanship spirit, the pursuit of top-quality products, and the inheritance of the honest and trustworthy ethos of Shandong merchants.

More than 30 years of quality stick

Sesame seed baking may seem simple, but it contains profound skills. A senior baker, after more than thirty years of hard work, has developed a unique hand of sesame roasting skills. His fingers, covered with calluses due to years of hard work, are even stained with unique colors due to the color of sesame seeds, which become the witness of his craftsmanship inheritance.

This sesame roaster is engaged in the key aspects of sesame roasting, and he knows that "frying is not the standard, frying to the fire is the key". The fire is the core of sesame roasting. Sesame seeds fried too raw, the flavor is not enough; fried too burnt, the flavor is bitter. Only when it is just right can the rich flavor of sesame seeds be brought out.

More than thirty years of adherence to quality, so that the baker has developed a pair of keen sense of the fire "God hands". His fingers, as if possessing a keen sense of perception, are able to sense the subtle temperature changes of the sesame seeds. With just a twist of two fingers, he can accurately determine whether the fire is sufficient. This craft is the result of his many years of hard practice, but also the inheritance of craftsmanship from Shilixiang Company.
